lasting memories.

with each adventure i find myself saving numerous, seemingly worthless items from the journey.
ticket stubs.
maps.
restaurant menus.
flyers.
food & wine labels.
the list goes on.

the thing is, these items are not worthless. they are memories from my trip, and with each seemingly worthless item, i recall a specific memory that has become priceless.

luckily allison found the perfect way to display these treasures (from martha, of course), and we have been working on them all afternoon!

i've finished the eurotrip 2007, and now it's on to merida! it's so neat to be sifting through these memories once more.





and now, it's redbox + chocolate bar.

simple silhouette.

as i continue to change my room, i've been inspired to create a few pieces of my own. this afternoon i created this classic cameo by using a simple flocking technique.

fun.fast.finished.

i started by printing the image on heavy-weight paper & applying a layer of glue.


then, i applied a liberal layer of flocking powder in 'pewter'.


a quick shake to dust off the excess powder.


and voila! a delicately fuzzy little silhouette.


to finish, i placed the lovely lady in an 8x10 frame with a grey matte.


a wonderful addition to my room in under an hour, and the project cost less than $20.00!.

i have been itching to change my room up a bit lately, and i've found the perfect inspiration piece on etsy (where else?!):

i am so anxious to explore the vertical city in person.

kitten fever!

lately i've been giving some serious thought to the idea of adopting a kitten. allison & i went, just for a visit, to the pet adoption location near our house, and there was a photo of this cutie kitty who was waiting to be adopted!




i just fell in love with little Linus (this is what i feel that his name should be...).
i cannot stop thinking about him.
great...and i was not even sure if i wanted a kitten.

fun with flowers.

today i took an 'introduction to flower arranging' class at the houston school of floral design.
though a dozen red roses are not exactly my style, the class was neat!

(i was more partial to the simple bunch of baby's breath)

what better way to spend a saturday morning than playing with flowers alongside friends?
dahnya has many more photos that she will likely share. her arrangement was perfect!

...and this little fellow was guarding my car when we walked out. what a cutie!

oh, nothing quite like 'dancing' with leila. it brings such joy to my heart! her 'moves' have been brightening my days since our uplifting dance offs in our beloved 2169 (our first dorm room in college).

the case for books.

so many books on my list!



it's growing & growing & growing!

my tiny bookcase is simply bursting at the seams, and i've got to find a solution.
and fast!
if only i knew where to find one of those magical book cases. the kind that when someone tugs on just the right book, the entire case slowly opens to reveal...
another book case!
and within that book case, there is another 'book' that opens up into...
yet another book case!
and within THAT book case...
yes that might be enough storage. but, let's not get carried away.

a blistering chill has set upon our fair city, and one unfortunate household not only forgot to cover their plants. additionally, they neglected to disengage their regularly scheduled sprinkling system.

the result, a stone-cold graveyard of flowers trapped in ice!




we went to anvil in celebration of a friend's new job last night.
i discovered the beauty that is the mint julep.
